We've been to LA area in Xmas about two years ago with our then-8-months old baby and had a great time hiking the Death valley and the Joshua tree. Now the baby turned into a toddler who is not so cooperative.

Any suggestions on what activities we could do with the toddler?
Any short, pretty hikes ?
Any wildlife sanctuaries ?
Is it doable to drive to see snow in the mountains not far from LA (if yes - than to where?)
Anything interesting to do at the ocean?

I would be so thankful for any suggestions!
We'll have a week to spend around LA, we would like to organize it nicely...

LA is so big thus there are a lot of things to do. Just google short hikes with kids, Christmas activities, etc. A few ideas:
Disneyland, Aquarium in Long Beach, The Grove, Big Bear/Lake Arrowhead, hikes in Malibu, Griffith Observatory....

I would add to the list above the Aquarium at the Santa Monica Pier and the Santa Monica Pier itself has an amusement park. Also a great place to take toddlers is the Page Museum (and the La Brea Tarpits): Home Page | Page Museum at the La Brea Tar Pits

Disneyland during the holiday season can be extremely crowded with 1-2 hour waits even for little kids' rides.

Beach, Piers, Palm Springs Tram, Traveltown (Griffith Park), Mt Baldy snow tubing, rent a boat at a local lake, take a metro or metrolink ride, petting zoos, La Brea Tar Pits (they were there even when I was a kid).

Here's one that I really love and the kids may love it too: Peterson Automobile Museum on Fairfax.

Santa Barbara Zoo is fantastic for kids and it is cheap and a nice drive. Stop in Downtown Santa Barbara and eat lunch outside on State Street.

Big Bear Lake in the San Bernardino Mountains is about 120 miles from LA. They have some great snow play areas and a very nice little zoo/animal park that is open all year. The Village area is quaint, especially at Christmas.
