I agree with people saying it's best to be closer to work. Also you have to make sure 30 -40 mins really is 30-40 mins. It can easily turn into an hour and half or more.

According to Google it's supposed to take me 30 minutes to get to work and back (each way) but it's more like an hour and 15 mins each way ...big difference.

I googled "fallbrook, ca apts" and found an apartment guide that listed apt complexes in the area, including Fallbrook, Temeucla, Murietta, San Marcos, Oceanside and Carlsbad. Looks like all of the inland towns have decent 2 BRs in your price range. The beach cities are more as prices rise the closer you are to the ocean - and most likely will be out of your budget.

Try asking the OC/ SD forum. Camp Pendleton is very far from LA.

Holy Moly - that's not L.A. anymore, my friend!! I agree with the handful of posters who say to find something as close to work as possible!! There are some great areas down there - Carlsbad, San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano & Dana Point are a few of my favorites... ALL of these coastal areas can be pricey & depending on your lifestyle, it could cost you significantly more to live in SoCal. Generally I would say a $15k bump might not be worth it unless you take it as an opportunity to MOVE to Cali... if that's the case, take the job & enjoy it here!!

There are several wonderful communities within 10-20 minute of Camp Pendleton, and they've all been previously mentioned.

I'd also suggest that you live north of Camp Pendleton as well, since your trips to Pasadena are going to be long enough as it is.
