Can anyone comment on what it might be like to live right near (like 100 yards) John Marshall High School in Los Feliz?

I'm a single 40-something guy with no kids, so I don't need to be near the school for any reason, there just happens to be an apartment near there for rent.

I lived about 300 yards from there and the area is fine.

People walking at all hours, there's a Gelsons and Trader Joe's nearby as well as a bunch of other amenities and things.

There are kids there, so expect to see them be themselves on the bus (for example), but for the most part, if you work a 9-5, you won't really deal with them.

In fact, my wife and I (when we lived on Los Feliz Blvd.) rarely saw any sort of child, it was kinda creepy actually. Everyone is perpetually 25 there.

There is, at times a #@$# -load of traffic however; especially on Los Feliz and Hyperion and parking can be a problem, but other than that, for someone who's single and relatively young, it's a pretty cool place.

Traffic on Los Feliz from Vermont to the I5 is insane! Its the only major feeder street to the freeway and the northernmost street in that area, so everybody is on it. Though with some clever GPS and navigating, you can avoid the jams.

I grew up in the area and graduated from John Marshall High School.

Very walkable area, especially on Hyperion near TJ's and Mayflower. (Whatever that grocery store is called now--Gelson's?) Some restaurants and a gym nearby, too. It's sort of baby-boomer and yuppy-ish kind of area. Very safe and quiet for the most part.

I would suggest also looking at apartments on Hilhurst near the public library or maybe on Vermont near Los Feliz Elementary School. Much more happening and fun than the JMHS area.

My commute for 16 years was Los Feliz Blvd across the 5 to Atwater Village. Sometimes LF was fine, others not (like when someone was parked illegally in the curb lane during rush hour). There are ways to get around it though once you know the area. And it's a great area, IMO. Close to the park, grocery, TJs, restaurants. Very walkable.
