Diversity in the population, easy access to arts and entertainment, a robust culinary scene, the vibrancy of city life.

Pasadena is quite nice, but for all intents and purposes, it's a suburb, and one that's quite gentrified and homogenous in most areas. The poster seemed to be looking for something a bit different from that.

Look, get over the beach thing: you need to be in the San Gabriel Valley or South Pasadena. You can live anywhere in the SGV and enjoy Pasadena for fun.

Metro Gold Line is being extended from east Pasadena area east through the SGV. Depending upon where you work in Duarte, you could use it when it opens in a few years.

OP said he is going to work at the City of Hope Hospital.

If it's going to be a long-term/career job, he would be very wise to live near a Gold Line station (existing or future) because the future Duarte Gold Line station is RIGHT IN FRONT of the City of Hope.

Great to see Gold Line will serve such a destination as many people of modest means use City of Hope.
