Hi,

So I currently live in San Diego but am seriously considering moving to LA. The reason is that I have two main focuses right now and those are drama and Judaism and LA has a great deal of both.

I have a very limited income at present. I receive Social Security and SSI and that comes to around $900/month. I realize that this is not much money for any major city in the USA and I am certainly planning on getting a job in the near future to increase my income.

However, until that happens I have two questions:

1. Is there a relatively safe neighborhood in LA that I could afford?
2. Are there towns-cities near LA that are affordable? I could move there initially until I find employment in LA.

thanks

Since you can make the two hour trip north easily, why don't you look for a job first and then plan your move around your job?

You can't work receiving SSI or any government assisted programs, some of my family members have them. If you do however chose to work, your benefits will be cut to a bare minimum. I don't know about in California, maybe it's different, but that's the way it is here in Georgia.

From the OP: "I receive Social Security and SSI and that comes to around $900/month. I realize that this is not much money for any major city in the USA and I am certainly planning on getting a job in the near future to increase my income."

OP is already planning on getting a job. My comment about solidifying that before a move still stands, social security benefits aside.
