So you have to leave the club a little early to catch the last red line? Assuming the clubs close at 2am

Yeah I think so. This is a pretty new improvement, I think the next step is all night trains on Friday and Saturday and the step after that is late night service every night, then lastly all night service ever night, at least on select lines like the Red and Purple Line.

Did anybody ride the trains after 2 AM on NYE? I am curious if the cars were pretty full.

Central L.A. (836,338, 2000 census) is comparable in population and density to San Francisco. Without the Hollywood Hills, the two regions would have identical density:

South L.A. has a larger population and a slightly greater density than the city of Boston:

Eastside L.A. is comparable in size and density to Newark NJ:

The San Fernando Valley has a larger population and a greater density than the city of Dallas:

The San Gabriel Valley has comparable population and a greater density than the city of Phoenix:

South Bay has a larger population and a comparable density to the city of Seattle:

Food for thought: OC and the Riverside/San Bernardino urbanized area = 5 million people. Those two distant L.A. exurbs alone are more populous than all but a handful of metro areas in the U.S.

I took the subway for the first time today since I was a little kid.

It was pretty amazing. Now if we can just make the buses faster.

Had a good burger at this joint:

Well, it's actually a burger joint now. Looks like it use to be pizza.

Los Angeles is the largest city in the world that is or has been almost totally dependent on private transportation by privately owned automobiles or by access to a private automobile for everyone living in the Los Angeles urban area. Los Angeles and Southern California in general is a terrible place to live IF you don't own a car or have good access to a car. IF you own a car, THEN Los Angeles can be a good place to live, traffic congestion notwithstanding. Not as good as it used to be in decades past but still better most other cities (if you own a car).

I've lived here my whole life. LA doesn't feel like a global city at all (like paris, tokyo, london or nyc).

-The schools are largely absymal. The LAUSD drop out rate is 25 or 30%? Some of the worst schools have a drop out rate of 45 or 50%!?! That doesn't sound like a global, world class city.

It's not an intellectual city at all (i.e. compared to like san francisco). There are a lot of smart people here, but it's so spread out.

-The infrastructure and roads don't feel like a global city. The freeways (pasadena freeway?). That must be one of the most outdated freeways in a major city in the country. We don't have a world class bullet train. LAX is way behind other large airports.

It's pretty bifurcated. Orange county is very prosperous. I think because LA is so spread out, it's hard for the whole thing to feel like a global city.
