Is anyone here a member of one the the Equinox Fitness Clubs in the LA area? If so, how do you like it? I am thinking of joining but wanted to get other's opinons before joining.

I've already read the reviews on Citysearch but wanted to know if anyone has or had a membership here and could comment on details (i.e., quality, cleanliness, equipment, crowd, etc.). I currently go to Magic Johnson's 24hr Fitness in Sherman Oaks but am looking into Equinox.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Okay. So no one here is into keeping themselves in good shape by working out? No one is a member of a gym?

My brother is a member at the Equinox santa monica gym. He likes it and he's pretty particular about equipment, cleanliness etc. Used to go to the gym on Sunset & PCH before it changed to spectrum and considers equinox better.

It's a boon if you like the classes and the spa stuff. It is what I would consider one of the more expensive clubs, as I priced it out at $120/month

I passed on joining and joined LA Fitness, for the locations, price, and the facilities (racquetball). I am also a member of Bally's. A friend of mine is an Equinox member. He enjoys it.

I have a friend who lives in Rancho Palos Verdes and he moved from the Equinox there to the SPECTRUM club in the same area. His complaint is that people were 'snobby' in the Equinox club - maybe he felt they were into keeping up appearances. He seems to prefer a friendly 'family/neighborhood gym' atmosphere, which he claims that Spectrum Clubs have, as opposed to a snooty health club full of impossibly good-looking "model-actors" walking around, pretending to be blinded by their own beauty and not notice each other.

Aw man. Not good. I have deal with people like that all the time (my wife's friends).

Go to the Spectrum in West LA where there's Rolls, Ferarri's and Lambo's parked out front every morning. I wouldn't call Spectrum "friendly" and would definitely classify them in the same class as Equinox. I didn't even price them...

I suppose by that rationale it would make sense - the Westside and Hollywood area is pretentious no matter where you go. Just part of the territory if you want to live in or near the 'big city'!

I have an old $24.00 per month membership at LA Fitness in Westwood that I hold onto because its so cheap.

They have that attitude there as well - Nobody looks at eachother.

Sloppy slobs there too. Trash and papers all over the floor from young and older members.

Default Equiox

I thought it would be a great gym. I joined the comlumbus Circle location in NYC. It is just really auful. the Service really stinks. if you have a complaint no one cares. if there is a problem and you speak to the general manager he is just arogant to you. It is dirty. THe other day instead of putting new toilet paper in the dispencer the locker room attendant left it on the floor in the stall and it is a HUGE roll, not the normal size roll. The members are really nasty and snobby and inconciderate. They will stand an inch from you screaming on their cell phone. I finally wanted to remind someone of the policy, no cell phones in the locker room and she started yelling at me and cursing at me. For the money not work it. YOu can get a cheaper gym with better service and equipment.
