So my husband and I are currently living in Park La Brea in West Hollywood (Came to california 2 years ago, and have been living here since.) It's a gated area, and even though it's in Hollywood, the inside of the complex is clean and safe with lots of open space. However for the price we're paying ($1500+ a month for our 1 bd) We don't get access to the gym, pool, repair requests take weeks, yearly rent has gone up by $50 (and probably will again this year) and they charge a high pet-rent every month.

I also work in Carson, which is an hour drive each way.

So we're looking to maybe relocate. My husband typically finds work in the Hollywood/Santa Monica area so we are trying to avoid getting too far south into OC.

I've heard decent things about Culver city, West LA, and areas like that, which would put me much closer to the 405 and make my drive much better. I just want to be in an area where I feel safe, we can find a decent apartment for hopefully a bit less, that might make my drive just a bit easier.

Any suggestions?
Thanks!

The only problem with moving west is that you won't get as much for your money the closer you get to the ocean. A $1500 1BR in Culver City, West LA or Mar Vista aren't going to be as nice as Hollywood, West Hollywood etc. Palms might be comparable but you should visit the neighborhood to see what you think of it.

I was definitely afraid of that. Thanks for the input and I'll continue scoping out areas that might be do-able for both of us.

I would look at Bixby Hills area of Long Beach, Cypress in OC, Seal Beach. These areas are nice and all along the 405 near Carson.

Yeah we've definitely considered looking around the Long Beach area, the only down side is if my husband has to travel north to Santa Monica or Hollywood to work his drive would be almost worse than mine is driving down. But it's definitely something we're considering (especially if it's a little cheaper) so I do appreciate the input!
