My boyfriend and I are both planning on moving to LA in the Summer or early Fall. We live in Vegas and I work in the creative department for an event planning company and he's in the beverage/hospitality industry. Although we work for really respectable companies here, we can't transfer our jobs because they're not in LA. Although we are moving there with savings, we don't want to risk moving there without finding a job first. How hard is it finding a job by doing phone interviews? Does anyone have experience with this? I know this is a vague question, but it seems like most people on here just get up and move and worry about the job once they're there. People get hired from out of state all the time here. I guess what I'm asking is if most employers give priority to people who physically live in LA over qualified/educated people coming from out of state?

I would imagine a face to face would be required unless there is a way to showcase your talent or experience to a potential employer. Are there other companies you have connections to in Vegas that DO work in the LA area? Those might be your best bet. It's not even a matter of priority, just practicality. And, of course, who you know always works to your advantage so see if the people you work with now can put in a word with a friend of a friend in LA, or a guy who knows a guy in LA, etc. If they hear your name from multiple sources, not just your resume, you've got a better shot all around at any job. Target companies you want to work for and start emailing them now . You never know who you may click with.

What about Skype? You could offer interviewing in this way.
