I am plannig to move to USA very soon and we want to settle in LA county. We were considering Pasadena, Burbank, Glendale - more or less within this circle. I plan to buy a home/condo for up to 300K with 2 bed/2 bath with no less than 1000 sq.f. in a nice neighborhood with good public schools nearby. Would you please advise if I can do that in the area I outlined, or maybe you can suggest some other areas as well?

Burbank and Glendale have better public schools than Pasadena. You won't be able to get a home in either place for $300K though, but a condo could be doable.

If you want to live within the schools boundaries of EXCELLENT schools, try this listing:
2940 North VERDUGO Rd #322, Glendale, CA 91208 | MLS# 12171611 | Redfin

The Elementary School is Verdugo Woodlands (I think), and it's one of Glendale's best.

Additional advice: If you are looking in Glendale, look in the area north of the 134 freeway.

Would south pasadena or arcadia be of interest to you? Condo's would be your only option but the schools are solid

thanks DynamoLA. Good advice. I thought though that Pasadena a bit better than Glendale, Iheard it's a bit more expensive and have better schools. Did I get wrong info on this?

Thanks! I heard the further east the worse, so Arcadia a bit outside, although I don't really know why east is not good.

Yes, Glendale public schools are better than Pasadena. For being a relatively affluent area, Pasadena's schools are surprisingly not very good.

South Pasadena on the other hand has excellent schools. You will pay for it though.

And "East" is not always bad. Lots of great communities along the foothills from Pasadena all the way out to Claremont. Arcadia has a good reputation (and is very high % Asian).
