There are a jillion in Pasadena, but I've only tried Rubio's and Chipotle which are both chains. Can you recommend any exceptional ones? Thx!

El Cholo in Old Town is excellent and so is Margarita's on Rosemead. For fast food, King Taco (also in Old Town), or Los Tacos on California are excellent. The lines at King Taco are always long at lunch hour, but worth the wait.

So many excellent Mexican restaurants in Pasadena, I miss it!

I lived in Pasadena/South Pasadena for many years.

Another suggestion for quality Mexican fast food is Pepe's (Alhambra, Temple City, and Covina):

Pepe's Finest Mexican Food locations, Alhambra Temple City Covina drive-thru, carryout and quick service dine in Fast Mexican Food

I ate there while living in Pasadena/South Pasadena many times. Fresh ingredients, friendly service, and excellent home style Mexican food with great prices. I miss it so much!

El Portal on Green Street in Pasadena is great (but crowded).

Not authentic Mexican food--but I do enjoy Sharky's in Downtown Pasadena as an alternative to typical burger-food.
