45 miles. How rough a commute would that be every day?

Horrible. Horrible, horrible!!

I make that commute occasionally from where I am to Monterey Park and its brutal. I do it voluntarily to go somewhere where I want to be, but it's murder on time and on gas.

I commuted in the reverse direction: Pasadena to Calabasas and it was pretty brutal. It can be done, but have a lot of patience.

If you'd take the 23 to the 118 to the 210 on down, not as bad as you'd think. Still, it's about an hour. If you can leave 6 am fine, or even 8:30 am, even better.
