First of all, let's get the formality out of the way: I LOVE LA!

With that said, I'd like to start a blog about LA. Namely make a living out of it.

Is it possible? Only one way to find out.

I already bought a good domain name, which I think is very important if you're gonna set up a blog and expect people to pay for advertising.

So what do you all think? Will I die in destitute or will I be driving down Santa Monica Blvd with an open roof Ferrari?

Can't wait!

hundreds of blogs about LA, so make sure it's unique and you may hit it big(probably not).

Thanks. I am well aware that there are hundreds of blogs about LA out there. Most don't have the kind of traffic to garner ad dollars, but there are a few standouts that rake in decent money. I am modeling my blog after the successful ones. Follow the money as they say.

I think the most popular LA blogs are the ones that show how bad LA is, like this one blog that I know where the people posts pictures of examples of how bad LA drivers are, can't recall the name, but I have it bookmarked somewhere

Do you know what constitutes good meaningful/long lasting content?

Are you doing this for money or will you love creating and being a slave to content each and everyday?

Do you know SEO?

Once the readership pours in do you know how to create partnerships and networking to garner advertisers and ad dollars; in short, do you have a business plan for monetization?

---

You will NOT be driving a Ferarri.

All of the blogs that are successful that I know are fashion blogs. And success is determined by how much 'free swag' they get. Some can support themselves with what they make through ads too, but a lot of these bloggers are also independently wealthy or have a SO to support them.

Good Luck.

It is going to be hard to drive traffic to your site considering you are entering what is most likely a saturated market.

Brigham Yen's blog seems to be successful - I'm not sure but I think he has a different job as well. That is the single most successful independent LA blog I can think of, it has some ads but mostly just DTLA related and probably not huge money-makers.

And unless you have a really unique niche market for your blog, you need to know SEO or else the site will be buried on page 3 of everyone's Google search.

It's not impossible to have a successful blog but successful does not mean it supports you.

Even the most successful blogs aren't making much money. They're barely scraping by.

Possible, yes. But very unlikely.

You would need to get about 20k unique visitors a day. And how much revenue you could pull in would depend on what advertising route you take (getting your own clients vs using google ads)

And you won't get rich from blogging. So, don't quit your day job.
