Does anyone know of any colleges (community or university) with logistics/supply chain management programs? I'm surprised that I'm not finding many with the proximity to two MAJOR ports...

Ideally with good proximity to Long Beach or online courses?

Thanks all!

That was my undergrad major at Ohio St! Although SCM programs are pretty popular in the midwest, they aren't so much in California. What you might want to do is major in another business concentration, like marketing or finance, and supplement your degree with supply chain courses. Most of the Cal State campuses offer some.

I haven't met too many SCM professionals with a degree in that area. Their degree concentration can vary and there's no particular path. Some are in industrial engineering (which is very system-oriented) that could be a good prep for that, or if you are in electrical/mechanical engineering, it's good for working for a large CM contract manufacturer such as Flextronics. But don't feel you need to major in engineering.

There are certificate programs or coursework in SCM that can help you get some of the foundations, but I think hands-on experience, such as an internship or summer job, will help, not only in terms of hands-on experience and exposure, but personal/professional connections - most jobs in any field are filled through personal contacts.

Thx! I've worked in logistics for the past 8 years, so my entire adult life... i totally agree there is so much hands on that you just cant get in a classroom, buuuut that lil piece of paper means an awful lot! I know transportation/scm programs are big, and growing quickly in the midwest, just figured I would see the same on the coasts, apparently not. A lot of "graduate certificates" not many actual degrees. I'm only just finishing up my associates in business (i took a loooong time deciding what i want to be when i grow up, haha) and was hoping if i could find some kick *** bachelors program that would further justify my taking a not so well paying job offer in LB. Looking like if i do move, I'll just stick with something "business-y" and specialize where i can (definitely engineering is NOT for me, I WISH!). Ideally, I want to stay on the transportation side of things.. we shall see where the wind blows.

Oh, I see where you're coming at, since you have the industry experience and it would enhance your marketability long term if you got a degree, correct? If you're going to be in the LB area, maybe you should check out what CSU Long Beach may have. However, if you're from out of state, the school fees are pretty high, no thanks to years of budget cuts. Best of luck to you.

Right, I have a job offer in LB now, but the money is nothing to write home about (ahh, the no degree thing!) I'm soo tempted to take it and just pinch pennies and make ends meet because I feel like I'm at the point in my life where I'm not getting any younger and ill kick myself forever if I never say I tried... I was just looking for programs I could transfer to possibly..
