A number of people that I've met throughout the years; friends, co-workers, tourists, even weirdos, all swear that the Lone Star State's Mexican cuisine trumps *anything* in California.

I honestly didn't know there was much of a difference. I mean, burritos are burritos, and enchiladas are enchiladas...right?

Is there anything in Houston or Dallas that can hang with El Tepeyac?

And all you two-fisted Texans who've lived in California, feel free to give your two cents as well!

Here's the difference: Texans have an inflated sense of self worth.

Texans like to talk loud while holding onto their huge belt buckles. But yeah, all talk. Everything is better there, haven't you heard??? And if you dispute it, they'll argue with you...

DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS!!!!, cause if you do, you'll have to hear them talk about why you shouldn't.

i was born and raised in texas, lived in so cal for 15 years and now back in san antonio. i used to search in vain for ANY restaturant that might compare to tex-mex, but found very few in so cal. tex-mex usually is spicier, tastier, more evidence of pepper, serrano chiles, garlic, etc. there is no comparison between the two. tex-mex rules.

True statement. I'm living in Texas now.

I prefer the Californian Mexican food over the Tex-Mex myself. It's just what you prefer.

It is different. Tex-Mex is tastier then Cal-Mex. Of Course New Mexican trumps all and there is nothing close to New Mexican in Cali.

I'm sure there is a difference.

Its probably because the people who are in Texas, California and New Mexico are from different parts of Mexico and put a regional flavor on it. I can't get Cajun food in CA. like I could in New Orleans, but if I and a LA person moved to Mexico the food would be called American but it would be different.

I've spent time in Texas (Austin) and have to agree that Mexican food there is as you describe above. A little too spicy for my liking, but that's because I'm used to the milder Mexican food here in California. I guess you can there's no accounting for taste!

I like CA Mex although I lived in Texas and ate Tex Mex for 4 years and on return visits. It's good too but not what I'm used to. My partner claims New Mexican trumps both. He says the Green Chile rules. It's all preference.

I'm from Texas, and I love Mexican food here. I really don't see a difference between Mexican food in Texas when compared to that in California. The Mexican influence in California and in Texas is pretty much the same, so I guess that's why the food is so good. NOW don't ask me to compare Mexican food from Texas versus that of Iowa or Washington, because THEN I'll argue with you LOL

btw, I'm from Texas, but I definitely like California more
