This is LA !!! I don't know if any neighborhood actually resembles a large European city. The Mid Wilshire District, the Wilshire Corridor, Miracle Mile area, Korea Town, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Echo Park, Fairfax District, Hollywood and downtown LA are densely populated and have a distinct urban vibe. I also think Silverlake and Los Feliz have a very urban vibe. But you won't find Europe in LA.

Don't come to Los Angeles looking to find a slice of where you came from, it's not going to be here.

You'll be very disappointed.

Instead enjoy the multi-cultural environment that Los Angeles offers.
Great post !! I agree with you.

I would add San Marino in the western San Gabriel Valley as well as Riviera Village in Redondo Beach and Palos Verdes Estates in the South Bay area. San Marino and Palos Verdes Estates are primarily residential in character with small commercial districts.

Yes, I was just going to write that. And only parts of it, at that. Maybe downtown Montecito (near Santa Barbara) and Bel Air too.

So, what's going on with Alpine Village? I see where the restaurant has closed, is everything else shut down too?

I used to travel past there on the I-110 while driving my father to Kaiser in Harbor City. I think it is still open, but I doubt it's still as good as 30-40-50 years ago. I hope it is, though. Seems like there's another one over by the beach cities. The one I'm referring to is next to the I-110 going south of the 405 fwy.

Yeah, same here. I just stumbled into it one day like 25 years ago. It had a "europey" feel to it. Surprised no one has suggested it?

The Alpine Village store and cafe were still open as of a few weeks ago. So was the 'charming' swap meet on the property.

I don't think any of it feels very European though. It's a few faux-Bavarian style buildings in kind of a run down industrial feeling area next to a freeway and a massive parking lot in the back.
