When my commute was 15 miles each way on surface streets, I saw things all the time (a large percentage being illegal left turns at intersections where they are banned during rush hour). Now that most of my commute is on the freeway, I mostly see people texting (they are looking down at their lap so I'm assuming that's what they are doing ). Today I saw a woman peel out from a dead stop (she'd stopped for the red light) and make a left turn well before the light turned green.

Very few people who drive daily don't break traffic laws: complete stop at a stop sign, driving over the speed limit.

I always come to a complete stop. And while I probably go over the speed limit on the freeway, it doesn't happen during rush hour (for the obvious reasons). I'm not a perfect driver but I do try to be a very conscientious one. But some people are just nuts - they are accidents waiting to happen.

Bald tires

One of my personal favorites: The morons who place a sticker of some sort on their back window, completely or nearly completely covering up the center brake light.

Loud Harleys (illegally loud chopped mufflers) "Look How Cool I Am!"
Loud compact cars (often driven by dudes in their 20s it appears)

OK I was sort of guilty of this one back in the 1970s, cranking the stereo really loud and just so everyone else stopped at a traffic light can enjoy it, rolling down all four windows.

One of my favorites, which I see in front of Costco constantly, are people who see the "no left" sign so they make a right onto the busy street, drive 20 ft, then make a mid-block U turn across a double double yellow line. Yeah, much safer.

All day every day. I see the "California" Roll, where a driver slows down and turns all the time.

In LA, the norm is to break traffic laws.

Everyone, even traffic patrol officers, break them at some point, either out of ignorance or plain defiance. Avoiding breaking them requires more than the typical impatient desire to arrive somewhere 5 minutes ago, but the concern for not just our own safety, but more importantly, the safety of other drivers, cyclists and pedestrians by letting go of cell phones, vehicle entertainment consoles and concentrating on driving safely. But then, who does all that?
