Hi everybody
This is my first post on CityData, long time reader though :P

I am moving to LA soon... and I understand that most LA folks speak of LA as the city in the west side of the County. People call the cities above it "The Valley".

What about the east side of the county? Are they considered a part of LA? How do people speak of them?

The Valley is something completely different that the area you are mentioning. I live in the valley and I never think about the area you mentioned (out of sight, out of mind). i've driven through these cities and they were nice IIRC, but they are definitely part of the suburban sprawl that LA is famous for.

I believe these cities are usually referred to and called the "San Gabriel Valley". When folks in LA refer to "The Valley", they are referring to the San Fernando Valley.

It depends whom you ask. Most people in the LA basin and SFV in general don't frequent that side of the county due to unfamiliarity and traffic, so they don't consider that part to be "LA" because it's not what they know as "LA."

But if you ask people who live there, they MAY consider where they live a part of "LA" (as in the greater LA metro area or LA County--not City of Los Angeles).

Businesses in the area sometimes would label themselves in "Los Angeles" (as in "LA branch" or "Los Angeles office") for non-locals to grasp their locations easier.

P.S. Chino Hills is in San Bernardino County, not LA County.
