It's strange that neighboring Paramount never became a black majority like Compton did. It went from majority white to majority Hispanic. My mother graduated from Paramount High School in 1964, and from what I understand, Paramount was still solidly white at the time. Although the neighborhood in which my mother lived (Dog Patch) was majority Hispanic by then. My uncles (my mom's brothers) said they had to learn how to fight from a young age because as one of the few white families on the block, they were often the targets of harassment.
