Anyone who says you need a car in LA is COMPLETELY WRONG.

Most likely they are from the valley or the westside(ugly and train-deficient). Its quite sad how little these people actually know about the City of Los Angeles.

I am a young professional living in Downtown Los Angeles that takes the Metro every day. I have never had a problem getting around. If I absolutely need to use a car (after 2am) I use the app UBER.

I also love to walk around and see the city that way. You miss out on a lot of details when you are just speeding by to your next destination.

Feel free to ask me any questions about some of the amazing architecture and history of this amazing city. Good luck!

I definitely would have preferred having a car in LA, but I got around just fine. There are so many walkable areas, and LA public transit is getting better every year. You just have to have patience. The advice that you can't live car-free in LA is very outdated.

SUCH HEROIC NONSENSE!

Well duh,

You obviously live in DTLA where you definitely don't need a vehicle to get around from A,B,C,D, etc. Like any REAL MAJOR CITY to be built in the CENTER. LA finally decided to rebuild its DT area b/c it wants to be a WORLD CLASS CITY. FAIR ENOUGH! BUT LA WILL NEVER BE LIKE NYC or CHI aka REAL GLOBAL COSMPOLITAN CITIES. Also, how LA destroyed its MASS TRANSIT infrastructure after WW-2. It wasn't until the 1990s, when LA actually realized to rebuild its MASS TRANSIT system in order to move people & reduce traffic on the highways.

Check out this link:

AMERICA REVEALED | Traffic Trouble in LA | PBS - YouTube

"You miss out on a lot of details when you are just speeding by to your next destination."

"Hello McFly is anybody home" - Biff, Back to the Future.

Okay,

When you have free time to enjoy & view LA's architecture on the bus. But when you're on the go to your travel destination such as date, work, or specific place. No offense, but mass transit riders could really CARELESS to observe LA's landscape where they need to go. Unless it is a WC thing to be LAID BACK aka DON'T GIVE A CRAP OF TIME OR DAY.

"Its quite sad how little these people actually know about the City of Los Angeles."

FYI,

You meant to text 50% or more of the population in LA don't know its historical city.

I read this website article comment about how LA's, CHI's, & NYC's time mgmt. & work ethic:

"LA people WALK to work, CHI people RUN to work, & NYC people SPRINT to work."

As a result, I'm looking to move to LA, probably next month.

One, I need to find somewhere to live obviously, and I know how expensive it is. Honestly, I have no idea where I should move. Recommendations are welcomed.

Two, I am from Washington, DC and we have a very good Metro system. I typically can catch the metro to anywhere I need to go. But in LA, I was told that I won't survive without a car? How true is that statement. What do you recommend? What should I do? How reliable is the metro in LA?
Buy a car.

I am pretty sure this Lucifer poster is from NYC. I'd recommend ignoring him/her.

It seems like public transportation in West LA is pretty decent from what I've researched.

You can get around LA without a car if your commute isn't too out of hand and generally follows a linear path along one or two major arteries. Like West LA to Glendale is gonna be virtually impossible via public transit. But Santa Monica to Downtown (and everything in between) is doable. Even WeHo/Hollywood to South LA. If you are staying in the Westside, the Big Blue and Culver City buses do an excellent job of connecting less trafficked neighborhoods to each other.

Do you want to file a lawsuit against me & take me to the US Supreme Court?

If it is then so be it.
