Two very different vibes there. Both have adequate school systems, and both are fine areas to raise families. They are affluent, safe places that require a multi million dollar housing budget so keep that in mind.

If I were to raise a family, I would probably choose Manhattan Beach. It's less congested and exposed than Beverly Hills. It's by the beach, has a sense of community, and more of a traditional values culture. Kids in Beverly Hills are bombarded with hypersexual, competitive, unhealthy messages every day, while in Manhattan Beach you can retain a sense of calm.

The Westside as a whole is a tough area to raise children especially when they are teenagers. If you have to raise a child in LA county and have money, better to choose adjacent communities outside of the hustle. The Beach Cities, Pasadena, La Canada come to mind.

It seems as if the lot sizes of an average house in Manhattan beach is smaller than beverly hills... is that true?

YOu know when you ask that question the immediate answer is that you are probably not ready for either.

If you have a whole lot of money and can afford good Beverly Hills go for it. It will not corrupt your children and you can live a lot better.

You need a different life view for Manhattan Beach. Even the very rich live packed in...and find it worth while for the ambiance. I personally worked the Manhattan Beach question hard many years ago but decided I did not have enough resources to do good manhattan beach and went to OC instead.

i would think the money line for a good BH place is about 5 X a Manhattan Beach one.

i don't mind close quarter living and i love the beach so BH loses this one. BH is nice and is more "LA", but there is something about the south bay beach cities that i am partial to. if money were no object, manhattan beach would probably be my top choice for cities to live in anywhere in the world (and i've traveled fairly extensively).

Manhattan Beach definitely. The last thing I need is to hear even more Farsi than I do already. Most people speak American in Manhattan Beach.

Manhattan Beach, all the way. Love the beach vibe, and great place to raise kids.
