Los Angeles Angelenos.

Can't be any more redundant than the Los Angeles Angels, or of course fully translated, The Angels Angels.

Exactly. I still find it odd and even a little pathetic the Angels' manager renamed the team the "Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim."

It's really dumb. I'm used to seeing them as "LAA" on TV or whatever and I've gotten used to that, but seeing or saying the full "Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim" or simply just Los Angeles Angels still looks and sounds really weird.

It's awful. That name stems from a dispute between the teams owner, Art Moreno, and the city of Anaheim. When Moreno bought the team they were the Anaheim Angels. Moreno wanted to call them the Los Angeles Angeles to pull in $$ from the L.A. market. The stadium lease agreement, between the city and the owner, says "Anaheim" must be in the team's name.

The result is an idiotic name. The Angels have been in Anaheim since 1966. Which is 30 miles from L.A.

Good ones!

I had been thinking along the lines of "The Caterers" because of all the fat, juicy pitches that the boys in the bullpen serve up, or "The Emperors" because of all the gold some players wear around their necks, but you channeled my thinking in another direction.

How about "The Jack-You-Ups?" Instead of a cute cartoon character the mascot could be a mean-looking dude with a crowbar, who runs around the stands terrorizing fans who are wearing the opposition's colors. Bad for ticket sales, you say?

Then how about "The Pampered, Overrated Ones?" Shortened to "POO" this could contribute to a resurgence of the print media with headlines like:

The Poo Stunk Today in 12-2 Loss

or

Angry Member of Poo Hits Fan

or

Poo Sink to Fifth In Standings

or

Poo Squeezed By Pirates For Last Playoff Spot
