Mornings can be very cold here. We have low humidity so the temps seem lower anyways, but then when there's no clouds to keep the heat in, it can be quite cold. Some areas of LA are waking up to 20's and 30's. That's not in the basin area though. In the basin, the highs will be close to 70with lows in the 40's. Sadly, for you at least, it will be raining on Friday and Saturday. I suggest not driving those days. People here can't drive in the rain. Last week we had rain and there were over 300 accidents. You will probably be used to rain coming from Chicago and won't mind the "cold" temps of 50's. I suggest staying only in Hollwyood on Fri. and Sat., maybe save those days for sightseeing since you won't have to drive if you sightsee in Hollywood. You can drive to different areas any other day, just avoid those two.

This is backwards. It feels colder with higher humidity. Forty degrees at 70% humidity feels a lot colder than 40 degrees and 20% humidity.

"Cold air with high relative humidity “feels” colder than dry air of the same temperature because high humidity in cold weather increases the conduction of heat from the body."

A perfect day for bicycling today... 79 degrees, a warm breeze and a nice blue sky:

We are actually going to be leaving next Thursday (the 13). Is it supposed to rain next weekend, too?

Thanks for the advice about the temps and people driving in the rain. I am used to it, but I will be careful for people who aren't.

I just keep saying "In one week, I'll be in LA...In one week, I'll be in LA..."

Today was definitely the best day in a while. It usually is the day before a storm. The temps were in the upper 60's here by the beach, the air was clean, and there was just a slight breeze.

The don't have Hollywood (weird), but the WTC does have West Hollywood. You may not want to look at this though...I'm sorry......It's gonna rain next weekend as well. Sorry. At least it will be a warm rain unlike this weekend. It's going up to only 50's this weekend. That would be an extreme heatwave for you, but that's freezing here.

Thanks so much for all the answers. You guys rock!
You'll love Pasadena. Burbank is nice too. Good luck with your apartment hunting trip.

50 degrees? Woo hoo!! I'm not kidding, the high here today is 28. I will be sure to pack some rain-appropriate gear, though.

I can hardly wait for the rain... some real, substantial rain. Isn't it funny though how when there's the slightest chance of rain, all the weather people go on "storm watch." I guess Dallas and Garth will finally get to use their Live Mega Doppler 7000 HD!!
