Does anyone know if MTA red light tickets can be ignored like the City of LA?

I was north bound on Canoga which parallels the Orange line an turning right on Sherman Way. When I started making my turn, the light was still green but going into yellow. The car in front was super slow so when I finally finished my right turn, the light was back to a red arrow and both me and the car in front got camera flashes!

I know I'm gonna be getting a ticket from this, but would like to know if it can be ignored. If not then I would love to fight this.

How did you arrive at the conclusion that red light tickets can be ignored from the City of LA?

MTA red light tickets are issued by the Sheriff's Department, not LAPD. Best not to ignore.

ccm123--a year or 2 ago, LA decided not to pursue any more outstanding red light tickets. Hence, many people are just ignoring them.

CapnHawk--thanks for the info. Once I get my ticket, I'll be sure to contact them to try to get it resolved.

If they have "Do Not Block the Intersection" sign at the corner where you made the turn then you are in luck!

Red light cameras don't automatically send out the citations... someone (usually a LEO) has to review the video/pictures and make a judgement on whether to send you (the owner of the car) a citation or not.

If a ticket does come, just show up to court and fight it. There's still a good chance the officer who signed the camera citation won't show up in court. If the officer does show up, then you have a chance to tell the judge your side of the story.

Been almost 2 months, I have yet to get a ticket, so I think I'm in the clear. Genjy, I think you are right. Glad to know that they have a live person review the video before sending citations out. Thanks all.

Which is why I never take Canoga due to the red light cameras. I just have a strange phobia of those cameras.

Actually, I don't think the photo cannot show you have broken the law, you don't need a "don't block the intersection sign", in CA you are never supposed to block an intersection, and once you cross the limit line you are supposed to complete your transit. The way these cameras on the Orange Line are placed, for a right arrow violation, they don't even show any of the crosswalk, so if one was held up by peds of other traffic, one could be fully into the intersection when the light changed, and still get a photo.
