As I stated in another post, I am considering a relocation from Texas.

I lived in Texas for four years, and grew a lot as person, becoming a fairly liberal woman and a freethinker. I am also a single and childless 32 year old, who would consider settling down with a like-minded man. My experience has shown me that my specifics are a bit of a challenge in Texas.

What is life in LA like for women such as myself? At this point, I am trying to narrow down my choices between LA and San Jose.

I appreciate any advice.

For single women, it's a great place. Way more men than women, as is true in most of California. It's also a matriarchy of sorts. You'd have your pick of a lot of guys, many of whom are quite great looking.

For liberal freethinking women, few places are better, except for the Bay Area and Pacific Northwest. Wonderful for women and gay men, hell on earth for straight men.

The Bay Area has a lot of educated, single women.

If by "freethinking" you mean buying into the same old feminist lies you've been force-fed for 50+ years then, yes, this is a great town for you. If by "freethinking" you mean actually THINKING for yourself and even going against the grain of modern PC culture by doing something as crazy as :::gulp::: BEING A STAY-AT-HOME MOTHER TO CHILDREN RAISED IN A LOVING HUSBAND AND WIFE FAMILY, then this probably isn't the place for you.

If by "freethinker" you mean atheist, we do just fine in the Greater LA area. Nobody's ever defaced my bumper stickers, even after 10 years.

i was 32 when i came out here from GA! I highly recommend LA, its great for people like us. Between San Jose and LA, there isn't a contest in terms of variety, diversity, and the ability to have loads of new experiences every single day with every single kind of person you could imagine. You can find every kind of demographic and every sort of neighborhood here.

As far as it being a great place to be single, I am not sure that it is. Its very spread out, for one thing, so the likelihood of meeting someone who lives in your hood or would be willing to deal with a half hour drive on the expressway is not the best. there is also the inevitable fact that there are LOADS of beautiful women here, of course, and many of them young, actresses, models, and it is a GREAT place for a young person who wants to just fool around with alot of different women. people don't move to LA to get married, and buy a house. generally they come out here for a dream, or for work, or both, but the chances are still good that you can meet someone if you try, i am sure. there are good solid men everywhere, and all you need is one!
best of luck to you.
also, the above gentleman fontucky is a man worth listening to! : )

That's what I assumed she meant by "freethinker".
