Hi,

I am wondering if anyone can suggest a small town/ city outside of LA that would be appropriate for a woman in her 60s that has cooler weather and is very affordable. My mother in law is young at heart and has decided to move closer to us from Arizona. I am not very familiar with southern California since I've only been living here for a year or so. Her budget is tight. Probably around $1000. She wants a 1 bedroom/ 1 bathroom. I live in Marina del rey and it would be awesome if she was only 1.5 hrs away.
Any suggestions would be amazing! I am kind of at a loss. The only place I know that is affordable is the valley but that will be too hot for her. Thanks

Ventura, Oxnard or Port Hueneme. PH has a lot of retirees.

I was going to write Oxnard or PH too.

Also, possibly San Pedro.
Hawthorne? Lawndale?

You can find dated places in Long beach between Belmont Shores and downtown LB under $1000/mo.

Also Huntington Beach and possibly Seal Beach.

When you say outside of LA do you mean Los Angeles county or just the city?

I've lived in Long Beach for many years. Here are some rental sites that have some listings of apartments on the less expensive side.

pabstkinney.com

ggbproperties.com/

eglproperties.com

abetterproperty.com

gjpropertyservices.com

Can you still find decent apartments in Huntington Beach for under $1,000 per month? The two bedroom I had ten years ago ($800 per month at the time) now goes for $1400.

"decent" is subjective. OP asked, I answered.

studio for rent no credit check!!

1 bed 1 bath Apt Close to Beach

***COZY STUDIO READY TO MOVE IN***

Long Beach is easier...even in ok areas:

Wilson HS close!

Upper 1 Bdrm, 1 bath, Apt

Have you looked online or called a realtor about over 55 communities? I know in TO for example which is expensive the 55 communities were a lot less monthly.
