Most of the jobs I have applied for in Los Angeles (which isn't many since I am employed and really only looking for advancement opportunities) have been legit - of the 10 or so I have applied for, about 7 resulted in offers for an interview, 2 of which I turned down and the other 5 I went on.

But yes, lots of job postings are BS (but more related to the quality of the job vs. the actual availability), I guess the key is being able to weed out which ones are scams / pyramid schemes / direct marketing / etc.

It's beyond those things. There are plenty of legitimate job openings published -- the issue is that they're only made known to satisfy EOE requirements.
