Hi, I live in Los Angeles. Every Monday, I take my trash bins out to the street to be emptied by the sanitation trucks. I line them up in front of one of my garages. My neighbor will then come out later and move my garbage bins over in front of my driveway, thus blocking part of my driveway, so that he can make room to put some of his bins in front of that garage (MY garage).

I've asked him numerous times to not do that. He has his own garages he can put them in front of, but he doesn't want to ruin his garages (built a studio on top). Therefore, he chooses the area in front of my garage to put his bins.

Like I said, I've asked him numerous times to please stop moving my bins over to block my driveway, but it's in one ear then out the other. I've even had to get the local police involved. They paid him a visit and told him to stop doing that. That lasted about a month or so. Then he was back at it again, moving my bins over and blocking my driveway. I can't call the police every time he does this; they're not my official mediator.

I've put up signs ("Active Driveway. Do Not Block."). That doesn't work either. What else can I do?
Gees. I am mad just reading this. Unbelievable. Can you confiscate his garbage cans...OOPS....Thought they were mine....In front of my garage where I left mine don't cha know......
Or run into them w/ your car....get a dent and file a claim....His cans wrecked your car....Afterall, the police had already spoken to him and everything...Who would have thought he'd pull this again..........Gees...a fender bender worth a few bucks...His homeowner insurance.
Do what the other poster suggested....sue him for aggravation, and whatever else applies.
What an irritating person. So, what other things does he do....This is so irrational and passive aggressive....there has to be more.
Also, are you sure that he is not causing you to pay more....his cans in your driveway....I'd at least call the garbage folks and find out. Maybe he is a squatter??
EDIT: Can you charge him with trespassing? Get him on video...arrange to wait him out next Mon. figure out how to see him from a concealed place and video tape him...I'll be watching for your updates.

It sucks but if you guys have an ok relationship otherwise I'd just keep moving them back. It's worse to feel uncomfortable where you live. I'd keep the peace over something this small. Not saying it doesn't suck.

After they are emptied, put lots of crazy glue/gorilla glue around the lid. It might be easier and more effective to hit the wheels first.
Once, twice,....he will eventually get the idea...

I don't think a strongly worded letter will work, and I don't think going to court will help either. I mean the officials would just make excuses that you are wasting their time. I do however like one of the other poster's ideas: take the cans onto another street and let him figure it out. If it doesn't work, then shove them back on his driveway, and if some of the trash happens to come out, then too bad. Good luck.
