We are in the process of looking to relocate back to Southern California. My wife works for the VA hospital and is interviewing for a position at the West L.A. VA hospital. We’re currently looking at homes in the Long Beach area. We’re trying to figure out how challenging the commute would be from Long Beach To West L.A. in the mornings and the opposite direction coming back in the late afternoon... thx!

Why not look for work at the VA in Long Beach?

All of the neighborhoods near the VA are very nice and reasonably priced (by LA standards). If you lived in Alamitos Heights, Park Estates, Bixby Hill or Bixby Village, your wife could walk to work.

Call me old-fashioned, but your wife shouldn't be the one with a brutal commute; you, as the husband, should be (if push came to shove).

Just after 10am, gps shows Long Beach airport to west LA VA as a little over an hour and 32 miles. It will be worse at 8 or 9 am and most days will be an hour and a half drive at those times.
