Not just that stretch but it's the main artery through CA. Usually jammed, or at least busy, from Valencia through San Diego. Not sure how they measure but, I just don't buy that 405 is busier. I think someones fibbing. Both the 101 through Hollywood and the 5 are worse.

And thus the reason Metro's currently studying a potential rail line through the Sepulveda Pass. Not so much lightening the 405 traffic but just having another option available to travel from the Valley to the Westside.

The problem with the 405 (from the 105 through the Sepulveda Pass) is that it's usually completely jammed at all times. The 5 and the 101 aren't usually too bad outside of rush hour. It seems like the 405 is filled with commuters during the week and filled with tourists and beachgoers on the weekend, so the traffic never lets up.

I think the 405 is just being sensationalized. Kind of like "carmageddon" that was all hype. True, Westsiders, might use the 405 to access Santa Monica and Malibu but, the 5 freeway runs through the middle of LA County and is used to access tourist spots like Dodgers Stadium, Magic Mountain, Disney, Knotts, Medieval Times, San Diego, OC, and all their beaches. I've driven it on weekends from San Diego to Dodgers stadium and it can be stop n go all the way. In fact, people from Long Beach to Seal Beach prefer to use the 405 to norcal because it is faster than most other freeways.

I've lived in LA my whole life. It's funny how the 405 got really terrible just in the last 10-15 years. I don't remember it being so bad in the late 80's or early 90's. It was somewhat normal, meaning there were actual "rush hours". Now it seems to be a continuous rush hour.

I remember in the 90's, lol, it use to take about an hour to get from west la to anaheim or out near pasadena or pomona. The traffic patterns seemed very different. The 405 has turned into a gigantic parking lot.

Yeah, I lived in SoCal (80's to late 2000's) and attended UCLA in the 80's. I could commute from UCLA up to Pasadena via 405 and it was maybe 40-45 minutes in the 80's, during rush hour. It has gotten so busy.
