I've checked google maps, it seems to only tack 10mins onto (in current traffic). I've made the commute in the afternoon, in the morning have been driving from downtown LA and the commutes haven't been backed up. The worst seems to be people going the opposite direction.

Many people believe this is a god awful commute, I've experience an occasional backup or commute stop but generally go within 10MPH of the speed limit; have I just got lucky or is this the norm? My commute times shifts a half hour on certain days, so need to be at LAAFB at 7am or 730am and leave at 530pm or 6pm, however I could utilize the gym in the evening so could be closer to 7pm or 730pm.

It's probably around an hour each way in moderate traffic.

Are you taking streets? Please tell us your commute route. It will take a good 2 months to get an idea of how the commute really is. Further, if you are taking the freeway, you can count on an accident or just plain INEXPLICABLE traffic that isn't the norm hitting you between the eyes. If your commute is between El Segundo and WeHo, I would take streets because they are more direct and move along better. This is the general rule here: freeways often unpredictable and awful; streets may be high volume traffic, but more reliable and move along better.

La Cienega directly connects WeHo and El Segundo, but La Cienega can get pretty bad. You can use streets like Robertson and Crescent Heights to bypass some of La Cienega's worst parts.

A "good" or "bad" commute is in the eye of the beholder.

I don't have an exact commuter route yet, other than LAAFB...Looking into apartments in Holly/WeHo. Have done the commute and the 405 portion has been surprisingly light.

I have made this commute three dozen times. Morning is EASY, half hour. Going home is a different...Average is 45mins Mon-Thurs. The 2 Fridays has been a hour and one Friday was an hour and 15mins.

I'm surprised, I drove home from LAX at ~6pm last night and the 405S looked like a parking lot (solid red on google maps traffic view.) Luckily for me it was smooth sailing on the 405N.
