I've doing internet searches for apartments in Downtown Long Beach and Belmont Shore.

A lot of them list only street parking for the apartment - this sounds like a huge pain to find street parking every day.

Are there places where a parking spot could be rented on a monthly basis?

YES, A HUGE PAIN!! I lived in two different Belmont Heights apartments for about 4 years combined. The street sweeping is a huge money maker for the City. Most annoying is that most of the sweeping was done between 4-8 AM OR 8-12 AM on my blocks. I was not the kind that was in bed by 9, so frequently had to park 4-5 blocks away from my apartment when I got in late. Some apartments have garaged spaces, but you normally must wait for them, and they can be pricey. Sometimes you could ask a neighboring apartment for parking, though they would most likely give preference to their tenants.
Maybe living on one of the streets north of Broadway would give you better parking options?

Thanks - I did more googlery, and there are city parking lots with monthly rates. Hopefully they are allow overnight parking as well.

Ditch your car. Take the bus or the train.
