Hi everyone,
my boyfriend and I currently live in DTLA but we are moving at the end of October. We found a beautiful apartment in the Village Green and are just about set to sign the papers. But we want to do really thorough research first, because the last time we signed a lease, we didn't really know what we were getting into. Safety is really important.

Baldwin Hills seems nice enough and the Village Green seems idyllic, quiet, and lovely. There are lots of babies and old people there, and they all seem happy, and to me that's a sign of security. The Village Green has roaming security and seems very safe, at least by day. We haven't had the chance yet to check it out at night.

We're a little concerned, though, after looking at crime maps and forums because it seems like "The Jungle" is pretty close to the Baldwin Hills/Village Green and we're afraid that maybe we'd be getting ourselves into a scary situation. In LA, it's so hard to tell what a place will be like until you've actually lived there. We learned this lesson the hard way last time, and we're determined to move into a situation that is safe and happy!

Can anyone share any information on this area? I know the disparity between neighborhoods in this city is often pretty contained, like how the south side of the USC campus is pretty awful while the north side is just fine. Is it a situation like that (with Village Green being the safe side) or should we worry about violent crime and robbery? Would it be safe to bike to the metro station and to Culver City? I am a female, 27, 5'6" and 117 pounds--would I be safe walking around outside the Village Green, or would I need to make sure to never go out of the community alone?

Thanks in advance for all your help! This is a great forum and an especially important resource in a city like LA.

Village Green and neighboring Baldwin Vista are fairly safe. It's really becoming a pretty desirable area. Most crime is contained to the east, but I would still be cautious at night. Biking to Culver City should be fine as long as it's not at night alone.

I have family near there, living off Cloverdale north of Rodeo. They love the area. It's certainly no Mayberry, but they feel safe and for the most part everyone keeps their yards and houses looking nice. That's always a good sign.
