Hey, I'm 23 year old white guy and just landed a job right down the road from an apartment I was looking at. I was curious to know if this address/complex is safe? 1828 Santa Ynez St. Los Angeles, CA 90026. I am coming from Chicago. thanks!

That part of Echo Park always felt safe to me, but I don't know that particular street, and haven't visited in awhile.

CrimeMapping -- Crime Mapping - Building Safer Communities! -- is a handy, imperfect online resource. They include Los Angeles.

When we lived in LA, Echo Park was generally not regarded as a "safe" area. I would look in Silver Lake, which is a better area.

Echo Park is just fine on the east side of the 101 freeway, where this apartment is located. You would have a very short walk down to the newly restored Echo Park Lake (very small bit also very nice. You would also be close to Sunset and a lot of cafes, galleries etc. and a lot of your demo live in the area.
Also close to downtown etc. and a fairly easy shot to the beaches.
