I have a list of places that I would like to visit in the U.S. and LA happens to be at the top of that list. I want to go because the beaches seem to amazing and I would love to explore the city and the surrounding mountains as well (I've heard the views from Mullholland are amazing). I also think it's a neat city because of it's history in the movie industry, and Hollywood in general seems interesting. But, I hear on the other hand that the traffic, pollution, and crime make it a place not worth visiting. What are you guys' thoughts?

To visit - sure. It's hard having grown up there but I know a lot of people that loved their visits.

You can do all of your list (though Mullholland is more of a hill ).

The beaches are fantastic, but not for swimming. Not because of pollution, though sometimes this is a factor, but because the water is COLD.

Hiking or driving in the mountains is great and the views are wonderful.

Hollywood has its allure.

Traffic is bad, pollution is much better and crime is down and any areas that you plan to visit will be generally safe.

I think this is one of the most overrated cons that people say. Yes, the water is cold compared to Florida, but if you get in the water for more than 10 minutes your body adjust to the temperature. How people say you need a wet suit is beyond me. Getting in the water during Fall & Winter might be a different story, but spring and summer come and I'm tryna a have some fun in the water.

I agree. I don't understand that either. I've never ever used a wet suit and use to go in there as a little kid. It's cold at first but once you adjust to it, its a blast, especially for a kid. If a little kid can handle it, then some of the people need to grow thicker skins. Even my 4-year old daughter can handle it...and she's 4.

Other than going to a show filming, or studio tour , I don't know how you would engage with the Movie industry in Hollywood. I think crime is over stated and sensationalized due to the industry being here, but we did just have the LAX incident. Mountain are something to see, especially if you come in the winter and have never seen snow. Snow is only 2 hours for LA. There are views from so many places. You can even get a nice views on freeway interchanges because we don't have many tall building and LA is pretty flat.

I don't know how to actually comment on pollution, it is not like you smell it, there is a layer and depending on which way the wind blows , it is either hovering over downtown or over the pacific. If it does hover over the Pacific, it create wonderful sunsets.

Traffic is something that you can plan around and isn't bad if you can plan to travel against traffic.

It's too cold in the summer for me. No way. Maybe it's my Puerto Rican blood that can't tolerate it. lol. I've lived here all my life and can't get used to the temp of the ocean water.

FWIW - I only like heated pools. The only non-heated pools I'll swim in are in Vegas when it's like 110 degrees outside...even then I'll still ***** about it.

The crime is very low here, lowest in 50 years or so.

Pollution is also way down. Doesn't seem to really bug anyone.

Traffic, yeah, that stinks.
