I did not mean London. I meant LA. I think the NATIONAL Football League should stay national.

I understand, I was responding in referencing your mentioning Goodell wanting franchises "in London and LA."

Most became Raiders fans. With no team some went with the team of their relatives home towns others choose without geography being the deciding factor.

Yeah, never really knew Los Angelenos who claimed the StL Rams. Never saw the Chargers gain any traction either. It was always Raiders. Or fans who just went with other pro sports (Lakers & Dodgers). I remember when a local radio station started carrying Chargers games every week in the mid 2000s. This is anecdotal, but I asked sports fans at work about it, and nobody was listening to 'em. Never saw Charger gear around town either.

Also saw that the Ram-Raider fanbases were typically reflective of LA's demographic shift. Former Ram fan base was generally older, White Angelenos, Raiders were Latino, Generation X & younger.

I was a Rams fan growing up. But I root for whoever is playing them ever since they left LA. I follow college games more closely than NFL anyway but for a years I followed the Chargers. Then I moved to the PNW and became a Seahawks fan.

I was never a Raiders or Chargers fan, and haven't followed the NFL for many many years.
i think there is general agreement that the move to anaheim hurt the Rams. It came across as not being LA. and, of course, if that move hadn't been made and the team had stayed in the city at the Colliseum, there never would have been the LA Raiders and chances are pretty damned good that you'd still have the LA Rams today.

what i find interesting is that this is a different era and we tend to think differently about our teams and their cities and greater metro areas. back when the Rams moved to OC, it came across as being far removed from LA. the distance from LA to Anaheim is a mere 24 miles. it's twice that distance to go from San Francisco to Santa Clara, yet the 49ers remain very much the San Francisco 49ers.

I'll put in my plug for LA as a Chicagoan. to me, the best move the NFL could make in an expansion would be to add LA NFC, LA AFC, and Chgo AFC. that would bring the total teams to 35 and you'd need only one more (Las Vegas? San Antonio? Toronto? wherever?) to reach 36 which would allow for divisions of 6-6-6 in both the NFC and AFC. it would also give both the NFC and AFC and Fox and CBS teams in the 3 largest markets (NY, LA, Chi) as well as two other huge markets (Bay Area, Bal-Wash).

I would think that both LA and Chicago could support two teams each.
