I just heard from a cashier that this goes into effect January 1st 2014. Can anyone confirm this to be true? I already get annoyed by the stupid CRV cost on almost every receipt and now this.

Maybe you should bring in a reusable bag then if that's such a problem for you?

So anyway.

Any other replies that actually respond to the question and aren't just attempts at being smart?

So in LA, you have to bring your own bag to the grocery stores to store the items you bought?

I live on the other side of the country, so I wouldn't know.

OP, I find that extremely annoying as well. It's so dumb, seriously.

I'm sure the grocery stores are lowering prices for the consumers due to the bag ban.

Sure .... I doubt they will lower prices

There was another thread about this topic a little while back.

I know Santa Monica already has it in effect and they charge I believe 10 cents for a paperbag

I don't like the idea much myself but I guess people will have to adapt somehow .

I've seen enough plastic bags stuck in bushes and flying down streets. I welcome it.

Whole Foods doesn't even offer plastic. Trader Joe's gives you a nickel for every bag you use from your own supply of bags, and has for years.

Yes, it's true, deal with it.

My only beef with it is that stores expect you to buy those stupid cheap cloth bags with their branding slapped all over it. Why should I have to pay you money to be a walking advertisement? And why should I have to hand you a dollar for something that cost you 5 cents to produce?

So I only use cloth bags that I've gotten for free at trade shows, and reuse paper ones from Trader Joes.
