We'll be driving from Orange County to Calabasas (405 to 101) Thursday to spend Thanksgiving at my 90 year old mom's and 92 year old dad's home. Because of them and because we have four small kids we want to take out a Thanksgiving meal and bring it there. Last year we took out from Albertsons and it was just OK. A friend suggested Marie Calendars. We'd like it to be close to our route (for example, nothing in Northridge). I like interesting food (I'd rather have authentic tacos than boring old Thanksgiving food) but everyone else probably wants somewhat traditional. Any other suggestions?

Off the 405 around LAX and Inglewood area are several places you can preorder deep fried turkey and other Thanksgiving dishes. Dinah's Family Restaurant at 6521 S Sepulveda Blvd. has a line out the door that day for order pickups. I also know of a Brothers BBQ on 7725 Crenshaw Blvd. Hyde Park that accepts orders. There are others that I've tried but I forgot their names. I'm not sure if it's too late to preorder, but you can probably still order take out dishes the same day at Dinah's. Sorry if these are still traditional dishes, but it hope the deep fried part makes it slightly more exotic.

For something different, try El Rincon Criollo in Culver City. They do a roasted whole turkey with Cuban garlic sauce, rice, black beans and plantains. It's great.

For more traditional Whole Foods has T-Day meals.
