If you want to live someplace upscale, nice and "classy" in LA on $1,500 - $2,000 a month (in rent for a 1br), where would you live?

I'm moving to LA as soon as I possibly can and I'm considering:

- Santa Monica
- Beverly Hills
- Marina del Rey

Other than those, I don't know any good areas except Malibu and Hollywood Hills. Malibu is out because it's too far away from civilization (and I'm not a surfer). Hollywood Hills is out because of the budget.

Any other suggestions?

Preferably on the West Side.

Well, I don't want to insult you, but I don't think you are for real.. There are not many decent places in L.A. in that budget and certainly none you are thinking about. Why do I get the idea you are just fishing for information and probably do not intend to move to the West Side.

Really? I'm pretty sure 1500-2000 gets you a decent 1 BR in those neighborhoods. Now, if it is 1500-2000 for all living expenses, then yeah you are gonna need to start looking at Pacoima.

Hey don't hate on Pacoima...highest concentration of taco joints anywhere .

None of that vegan soy crap. Straight Cabeza and Lengua man.

It's actually not cheap as it should be for it's rep. 1bedrooms look to be $1000 or so.

Just about every neighborhood in LA, even the swankiest, have 1 bd apartments under $2k a month.

yeah...i'm confused by some of the responses to the OP. Just a quick look on hotpads and rent.com shows plenty of 1br apartments in Santa Monica, MDR and even a few in Beverly Hills within that budget.

Surprising since Santa Monica holds the highest rents in L.A, higher than Beverly Hills or the Marina.
