condo/aptmnt living isn't conducive to maintaining your car's best appearance. If I can't hijack my cousin's driveway or my parent's for an afternoon I usually end up at the self-wash place on Lincoln near Ocean Park. I bring my own wash mitts and spray wax cause I'm kind of anal about scratches & swirls. I've also had luck at the Palisades Detail place in the Village behind the Post Office (across the street from the big auto wash). They hand wash so they're a bit pricier than other places. Another friend who lives in Mandeville swears by the detailing guys at the Union76 near the Brentwood Country Mart. Her Mercedes is always flawless & shiny, but I'm sure she's paying $$$ for it.

Union 76 at the country mart is the biggest rip off in LA county for gas.

The Palisades Car wash is excellent, though a little pricy.

Lincoln car wash on lincoln by olympic is unfortunately your best bet in santa monica. it's fairly affordable, they do an okay job, and while they try to upsell you like the rest, if you say no 3 times theyll leave you alone.

I like Wilshire West, around 23rd & Wilshire: Wilshire West Car Wash Home

They work very hard there, so I tip 'em a few bucks.

Really? They're universally known on Yelp as the worst car wash in the LA area. I've never had anything but horrible experiences there. They upsell you till you say no about 5 times, then if you get the basic wash they take forever and always leave blotches. I even had my wallet stolen their once when I was kid (since I was a kid, I think I had like a high school ID and 60 bucks, but still)

Pity because it's in such a convenient location and has an easier entrance/exit than Lincoln or other car washes

I've been going to Wilshire West for 27 years. I guess it's partially because it was the first car wash I found, I liked it, and I got used to it.

Yes, they do try to upsell you. They even have laminated menus, as though you were ordering at a restaurant. But you can always say No. I've never noticed a poor wash if I didn't order their top items.

They also have a nice waiting area, which I like.
