I'm new to the L.A. area, I live in South Pas, and I just got a job in El Segundo. Google says it takes 35 minutes to get there; somehow I don't believe it.

My question is this: which route should I take? Waze suggested taking the 110 pretty much the whole way down (110 to 105). But would it be better to take the 710 to the 105 to avoid going through downtown? Does the 710 get pretty congested? I really just don't want to be stuck on the 110 during rush hour.

If anyone has done this commute before, let me know how long it usually takes/which route is best/if there are any good alternate routes. Thanks!

I don't have a lot of experience with the new 110 HOV/Toll lane with the transponders, but that's probably the way you want to go (if you're willing to pay the toll). Fremont gets just as backed up as any freeway at rush hour, so I wouldn't recommend the 710.

Pretty sure if you leave South Pas by 7:00 you will be at LAX in 40 minutes most days.

I used to do that exact commute in the 90's (Fair Oaks and Huntington to Imperial Highway and Aviation Blvd). 110 gets backed-up pretty bad in Downtown and around the 110-105 interchange in the afternoon. 710 flows better, is longer, but the city streets get backed-up in Alhambra. I found taking 110 was better for the morning commute.

Commute time in the morning was 35-60 minutes, depending on time of day and afternoon was 50-60 minutes (most of the back-up was in Downtown on 110).

It is 35 minutes between 10am an 2pm. If you take the 710 you'll hit traffic going west until the 110. Traffic south is bad starting at 7am until you cross the 10fwy I lived off via Marisol and had a place look over the 110. The toll lane will get you home a little faster then I might take streets. Unless you are tied to south pass move south of the 10 or close to la cienga.
You can also take 3 trains to get there.

110 to 105 and no real way around it. See if Waze gives any new routes while driving. Trying to cross through different street routes in Downtown isn't really going to speed anything up either.

I used to go from Glendale to Torrance and the 110 wasn't that bad once you get used to it.
