Hi guys,

As stated above, i'm moving in April coming from Sydney, Australia. It'll be a clean start for me, leaving everything behind and starting anew. The only people i know in LA will be my Auntie and Uncle.

I do have a valid working visa.

That said, where can one start to look for work as an Assistant Editor? I'm highly experienced with about 7 years in the film industry, all on major Hollywood pictures that was shot in Sydney. I've worked on some TV programs in the downtime but nothing that was American. Currently on a massive tentpole film now for Warner Bros that once its finished, i'll head up to LA.

Is there a job agency that specifically caters for the Film Industry that i should look at? Where can one even start to get into the industry there (post production) as someone of experience, and not a newbie looking to get a foot into the door?

Just thinking about it is getting me anxious and tends to be daunting. Any advice you guys may have would be most welcome! Thanks in advance.

Any previous LA connections you can call? That would be the easiest way to get in.

Try contacting the Australian Consulate or Austrade in LA, pretty sure they have a fairly active networking group for Australians in film and tv in LA. How do you get work in Australia? Assume it's usually word of mouth or knowing somebody working on a particular project? It'll be largely the same here. Start with the contacts you've made from the film's you worked on in Sydney.

Also send your resume and maybe a show reel to some of the larger post production companies. It will always be harder cold calling, but being Australian will give you a bit of a novelty edge (even though there are a lot here in the business).

Thank for this mate, this is great advice. Will look into Austrade and i'll compile a list of the post houses in LA. Thanks again!
