I would not buy anything before feeling the situation out first. Spending an hour + each way commuting will put a lot of stress on your husband and your relationship. There are plenty of nice places to rent in the area. I recommend renting in the Beverly Glen Area if you want a house as it's close to Westwood and a bit more affordable. There are also many apartments in West LA. as well for rent. Being able to live close to where you work in LA is a major benefit. Warner Elementary is the public school in the area and it's very good.

7-3 Will definitely help with traffic provided he walks out the door promptly at 3.
