I'm trying to research the history of the makers of a small watchmaker's lathe that I just acquired, which I use in my clock repair hobby. The lathe is stamped PERTON on the end, and information on the maker is rare or nonexistent, as best I can tell. I found one source that claims the PERTON watchmaker's lathe was manufactured by a company called "Clayton and Rose Mfg. Co." for a very short time following WW2.

This is nothing serious, I just have a small collection of American-made watchmaker's lathes and so far the PERTON is the only one that is hard to find any information on.

Is there any chance someone reading this might be old enough to remember a company called "Clayton and Rose Mfg. Co." in the Los Angeles area immediately following WW2? Some of the questions I would have are:

1. Did the Clayton and Rose Mfg. Co. actually manufacture the PERTON watchmaker's lathes, or is that bit of information not true?

2. If they did make the lathes, did they make other small tools? What kind of company was Clayton and Rose Mfg. Co.?

3. What were the approximate dates of operation the company existed, and why did they go out of business?

Thanks for reading,
...Doug
