WaMu's customer service is outstanding, which says a lot since we're talking about a nationwide bank. B of A is the opposite. If you want to know what it feels like to be a number, bank at B of A.

yes, that's exactly the way that the b of a in west hollywood was. there were lines out to the door at all times. the folks at the local wells fargo in long beach seemed to bend over backward in comparison.

Don't go with Citibank, they're on the verge of going bust.

Thanks a lot everybody! It's between Washington Mutual and Wells Fargo. We have both of those here, so I'll check them out. I only want a checking account, so that should be simple.

Thanks!

Arrow Banking Thread

You might want to check out this banking thread in the Orange County sub-forum. Very interesting discussion on banks vs. credit unions:

Just remember: Do NOT bank at Bank of America!

another vote for WAMU

They are awesome. You get free checking, and with that free checking you get excellent customer service! We also have our mortgage through them and they've been great!

Use anyone besides Wells Fargo.

I've been banking with them for 10 years or more, and I hate them.

Use Wamu or B of A...

I left Wells Fargo for wamu, what a mistake! They placed a one week hold on every paycheck. The hold would release when I deposited each new paycheck. Then the bastishes would charge me $28 for "covering" each check on the account since the money was on hold. I added up and they owe me about $750 in false charges.

I returned to Well Fargo 7 years ago with no complaints.

Beware of wamu's free checking, they charge if you use a teller instead of the ATM.

Wells Fargo is awesome... I just opened an account with them in January. Today I saw they had charged $17.25 to my account for checks which I was told were "free". Well they weren't supposed to be free and the teller I opened an account with lied to me. So I called customer service and the charge was reversed in 2 minutes.
