Hi, I am looking for a summer internship in the Los Angeles area. I am a sophomore at DePaul University in Chicago and my g.p.a. is 2.7. I have just finished the multivariable calculus sequence and about to begin a class in linear algebra, I also know basic physics. I am specifically looking for a mechanical engineering entry position but any field of engineering will do. Any help will be much appreciated!

I would:
a) work through DePaul's career placement center
b) check job boards, such as Indeed.com
c) search for LA based companies that have internship programs... via various methods. I went on LinkedIn to find people that had internships in the LA area. Once you have some companies, try to contact them.. via their careers site, via people on LinkedIn, etc.

and for the future, improve your GPA. No offense, but 2.7 is low and will relegate you to the bottom of the barrel of candidates. None of the companies I've worked for would even consider your resume with those grades.

Don't give up and Good luck!
