Anybody have info on Christmas tree lots run by civic organizations, PTAs, neighborhood groups, charities? We'd rather not have to go to Home Depot. In the Silver Lake/Echo Park area, please.

Reviving this for the new holiday season.

In addition to lots, where are there Christmas tree farms where you can cut down your own tree? Obviously there won't be any in the heart of LA, but in the outskirts are there any?

It might be far for you, but I believe there is one going up in Burbank on Riverside I think.

Check with your local Boy Scout troops. I know the Boy Scouts in my area have a tree lot each year. Also local nurseries.

To answer my own question (one year later), there is at least one lot in the Silver Lake area on Hyperion near the Casita del Campo restaurant.

I know of 2 in South Pasadena. One at the corner of Mission and Fremont, not sure of the charitable organization. The other is run by the YMCA on Garfield just north of Huntington Drive.

A few years ago I was at a Japanese nursery on Sawtelle blvd.

They carry live trees that are bonsai style. Makes a nice decorative tight tree and lives year round. Been 3 years now and it still looks great.
