Are those really things a tourist would necessarily want to see? I'm not certain how they're something unique that can't be experienced in some similar form elsewhere. Furthermore, I like walking on Montana Avenue to forget about the rest of the area.

If your a tourist, your going to be on the West Side most likely. I'm just saying instead of going to boring Beverly Hills & Westwood... or overpriced West Hollywood ...You can at least go to the best part of the west side; which is SaMo & Venice. Culver City is alright as well though not very walkable for the most interesting nightlife.

Interesting logic--should I bypass 5th Avenue when I visit NYC because most of the shops can be found at the Beverly Center? Or skip out on Copacabana Beach either because we have beaches too?

In Culver City and its vicinities there are some studios, somewhat historic architecture in parts, the Museum of Jurassic Technology (this one gets a gold star), two cemeteries with some notable burials, some performance theaters, some galleries and a decent range of bars and eateries. Don't you live in the vicinity in West LA?
