Just FYI, Houston is significantly more spread out than Atlanta. It's very similar to LA or any of the other bigger cities. You can drive for an hour or more, with no traffic, and still be "in the city".

I still think Houston is the best choice overall. Houston is right on Galveston Bay and the beach is only about 40 minutes away. Outside of New Orleans, Houston has the best food in the southwest and whens it come to diversity its the United Nations and has one of the most prosperous Asian communities in the world

Atlanta is very segregated. The whole South is segregated. Also, with a British accent, you'll noticeably be foreign and that is not a good thing down there. People do not like it.

DC is supposed to be a great place and you will fit in since there is a large number of African-Americans there.
Houston is bad, especially since the influx of people from New Orleans. Stay away. DC is bad too, you'll pay a fortune not to get shot coming out of your house.

Oh yea, I forgot you're from England. Don't move anywhere in the south then. You will either be shunned out of society or constantly thought of as a tourist.

Pittsburgh might be a good area. Las Vegas isn't bad. Sacramento. Portland, Oregon. Dallas. I think Tampa, Miami, and Dallas would be the only places in the south that would accept you into society.
