The only nice parts of VN that I would recommend would be between Hazeltine Ave and Sepulveda up to Magnolia Blvd. or south of Magnolia. Closer to Sepulveda more iffy. My parents live off Hazeltine and Chandler which is still a good area until you get closer to Van Nuys Blvd. I would look at other choices before living there though.

Holy cow, now I'm starting to get scared! Does anyone know anything about these addresses?

14410 Valerio

13931 Bressner.

Our budget sucks (1000-1100) but I still would prefer something realitivly safe.

I wouldn't move to 14410 Valerio is someone paid me to live there. Valerio St Boys...gang....lots of drugs and crime. ALL hispanics there. That's just east of Van Nuys BLVD...basically on the corner. HORRIBLE.

Couldn't find Bressner. Could be Bessemer, and if it is, it would be a bit better I think.

Thank you SO much for this info! It is Bessemer, thank you. That is better? How much better?

Thanks again. Once more, this board has proven invaluable.

SE of Victory and VNB.
A little better, not too far from Valley College. Played volleyball in the quonset huts there in the early 80s, wasn't bad. But that was over 20 years ago.

Valerio St. was a huge drug dealing spot even before the demographic and economic (i.e. closing of factories, etc.) changes of Van Nuys. Even in the early 80s that was the Valley's heroin capital. It's gotten worse since, which is saying a lot.

Stay out of Van Nuys. Add 300 to that 1k or 1100 and get below Magnolia.

Sherman Oaks begins just south of Burbank Blvd. Hazeltine and Chandler, therefore, is also Sherman Oaks.

To the OP: Please reconsider moving to either one of those addresses you gave us. The one thing you need to always keep in mind about renting in L.A. - If it's cheap, there must be a reason!!!
